[Modern] Back to basics with Super Green

I went back to the basic design I had for this deck. I put the playset of Wurmcoil Engine in the sideboard (you will think its a waste, but anyways...)

Against a casual deck, this deck can be a beast. Here is an example.

Once I have soulbonded the Wolfir Silverheart, the highest power is EIGHT, and I have Nykthos to give me tons of mana to play all these cards as soon as I draw them.

Second time around I have 16 mana!

Born of the Gods play notes

As was the case with Gatecrash, I am not planning to attend this pre-release. Therefore, these are my notes for once the cards go down in price online and I start incorporating them into Standard, and perhaps one or two Modern decks.

1. The only two archetypes I am interested in playing are the white one and the red one.

archetype of courage (white: first strike)
archetype of aggression (red: trample)

2. Brimaz (white legendary)

3. All gold cards look interesting. The ones that don't become too expensive I would like to try.

4. Inspired looks like a fun and playable ability.

god-favored general (white)
aerie worshippers (blue)
pain seer (black)
felhide spiritbinder (red)
satyr nyx-smith (red)

5. I want to expand on my casual minotaur tribal (it does not include nor will include Boros Reckoner).

felhide brawler (black) 2/2/2
kragma butcher (red) 3/2/3
oracle of bones (red) 3/3/1 freecaster! (combos with satyr firedancer)

6. Maybe I will try a cyclops tribal

cyclos of one-eyed pass (red) 3/5/2 vanilla

7. Additional cards I am interested in.

hero of aroas (white) aura spells -1
loyal pegasus (white) can't attack/block alone
revoke existence (white) exiler
sunbond (white) enchants when you gain life
fated infatuation (blue) copy creature
evanescent intellect (blue) tap to mill
mindreaver (blue) mill plus sacrifice to counter
whelming wave (blue) kraken/leviathan/octopus/serpent tribal fun!
vortex elemental (blue) elemental tribal
ashiok's adept (black) discard
bile blight (black) -3/-3
black oak of odunos (black) wall
marshmist titan (black) devotion reduces casting cost
ganguimancy (black) devotion card draw
fall of the hammer (red) directed removal
fated conflagration (red) 4 for 5 damage and scry 2
impetous sunchaser (red) flying and haste
searing blood (red) two plus three damage
satyr firedancer (red) damage
thunderous might (red) devotion damage
courser of kuprix (green) mana ramp
aspect of hydra (green) devotion booster
fated intervention (green) cheap tokenizer
hero of leina tower (green) heroic boost
skyreaping (green) plummet variant
springleaf drum (artifact) mana feed

Magic 2012 Online Packs

These are $1.27 a pack from the bots, and I love the Titans. Here are highlights of the packs I cracked and my status for this set of rares and mythic rares. I made some great pulls. I am looking to get as many of the Titans and Planeswalkers as possible to complete playsets.

Here is an Inferno Titan (and a Goblin Grenade, cool card!).

A Chandra's Phoenix.

An Acidic Slime.

A Sorin's Vengeance.

Sorin Markov (nice!).

A Day of Judgement.

An Angelic Destiny.

Here are the rares and mythic rares so far. I had bought a few of these before this booster rampage, especially two Grave Titans (my favorite card of the set).

January 25, 2014 update:

Here are my mythics so far (pulled a Sun Titan!).

March 8, 2014 update (added four packs).

Innistrad first redemption and second redemptions for DKA, AVR, and M13

Here is what I am missing for the second redemptions.

mikaus unhallowed    $5.70
sorin                         $7.58
falkenrath                  $3.78
huntmaster                 $4.78

avacyn                        $9.71
entreat                         $7.55
craterhoof                  $17.92

sublime                       $5.00
omni                           $8.23
v nocturnus                 $2.55
chandra                       $2.86
thundermaw                $15.20
primordial                     $4.17

And when I complete the first innistrad redemption I will need to get a fourth snapcaster at $6.18

At this point I am ready to redeem Innistrad and a second DKA. The other two will wait.

February 20, 2014 update:

I am not planning a third DKA redemption. I would not mind 2nd redemptions of AVR and M13, especially to get a Griselbrand on hand.

avacyn                        $9.71, now $10.75
entreat                         $7.55, now $7.76
craterhoof                  $17.92, now $19.16

sublime                       $5.00, now $4.50
omni                           $8.23, now $8.96
v nocturnus                 $2.55, now $2.47
chandra                       $2.86, now $2.43
thundermaw                $15.20, now $21.17
primordial                     $4.17, now $4.00

March 1, 2014 update (pulled a Chandra):

avacyn           $9.71, $10.75, now $11.06
entreat            $7.55, $7.76, now $7.53
craterhoof        $17.92, $19.16, now $18.20

sublime          $5.00, $4.50, now $4.67
omni           $8.23,  $8.96, now $8.43
v nocturnus        $2.55, $2.47, now $2.71
thundermaw         $15.20, $21.17, now $20.42
primordial        $4.17, $4.00, now $3.84

March 8, 2014 update (it is looking less unlikely that I will do any more redemptions, but here it goes):

avacyn           $9.71, $10.75, $11.06, now $11.06
entreat            $7.55, $7.76, $7.53, now $8.50
craterhoof        $17.92, $19.16, $18.20, now $17.77

sublime          $5.00, $4.50, $4.67, now $5.71
omni           $8.23,  $8.96, $8.43, now $8.96
v nocturnus        $2.55, $2.47, $2.71, now $2.87
thundermaw         $15.20, $21.17, $20.42, now $22.14
primordial        $4.17, $4.00, $3.84, now $4.15

March 10, 2014 update: $30 to the bots. I still need:

avacyn         {March 15 ($9.71, $10.75, $11.06, $11.06), now $11.65}
craterhoof    {March 15 ($17.92, $19.16, $18.20, $17.77), now $18.69}
thundermaw {March 15 ($15.20, $21.17, $20.42, $22.14), now $22.14}

And if I changed my mind and redeemed another set of DKA, I am missing the majority of the money cards (about $40, which is pretty much what the whole set sells for!):

helvault    0.97
sorin       9.32
falkenrath  5.61
huntmaster  4.15
vorapede    3.25
havengul    4.88
mikaeus     5.96
moonveil d  1.10
drogskol    3.44
archangel   1.07

Therefore, I think it will be just AVR and M13.

[Modern] Zoo + Wurmcoil Engine deck

Here it is. It still needs some more optimization, but its good enough for fun.

[Modern] Back to Modern with Monogreen

It is very difficult to run a deck without creature removal. It does pack artifact, enchantment removal with Naturalize, flyer removal with Plummet, and Land Destruction (LD) with Bramblecrush. With four Garruks, three in the main deck, I can use the -3 super-draw and discard it not feeling like its a loss.

[Standard] A juiced-up Grixis

...now with a play set of Ashioks.
