I have learned that the hard way when I lose to Timmy decks and to Spike decks. Mark Rosewater has explained the three major types of players here:

Timmy likes big creatures and super cards. Here is a Timmy card.

Johnny likes to win with their own decks, even if these unique decks rarely win. I like this profile a lot. I am overjoyed when I beat a Spike or a Timmy with one of my somewhat weak blue, black, blue/black or green/black decks. Here is one of my favorite cards. It definitely belongs in one of my decks.

Spike are your tournament players: the successful copycats that populate tournament practice online. Because these days there really are only two viable decks in Standard, Spike is either playing a black Zombie deck or a Delver of Secrets deck. Any tournament staple is a Spike card. Here are some of the usual suspects.
