Theros Nostalgia

I am a casual Johnny deckbuilder, and therefore, I loved Devotion. Here are all the Theros-centric decks I built. I am planning to build a few more.

[Vintage] Casual Affinity Part 2 of 2

Link to Part 1

Enter Expedition Map. Now I have four tutors for Tolarian Academy (and very cheap ones too!).

Now I can have a Tolarian Academy turn 5, and sometimes earlier.

Here is turn 1 with a Tolarian Academy in my hand, freshly tutored.

Turn 5 fun.

Turn 6 fun.

And turn 7 fun. Once I am cycling through Frantic Search, I am in infinite mana mode.

Here are almost all of my permanents on the board by turn 7 (in Solitaire, of course).

Time to pop (exile) a Thran Foundry.

Look at all that mana!

[Vintage] Casual Affinity Part 1 of 2

I have only played this deck in Solitaire because the number of people playing Vintage that would want to play such a casual deck IS the definition of the number ZERO. Yet this is such a fun deck. It is full to the brim with Johnny joy. You look at the deck list and you see three moxen, and you wonder why I call this deck casual: IMHO in Legacy, you play Dredge, power 9 including Black Lotus, or you are playing casual. That's just my humble opinion.

Emmesi Tome is my main way to pop out lands from the top of my library once Future Sight is on the board.

Early turns the deck can drop aggressively.

Here is a great turn 7 board position.

Turn 9 I have both planeswalkers, I have already dropped my big critter, and can Brainstorm using Jace, the Mind Sculptor (JTMS).

Because I only have one Tolarian Academy and I am not tutoring for it, when it drops, I effectively have infinite mana.

With Frantic Search, I can tap Tolarian Academy, generate a ton of mana, untap it, and then tap Tolarian Academy again.

I can get close to milling myself with almost all of the permanents in the deck on the board.

Here I have 14 cards left in my deck.

Look at all that mana!

More Frantic Searches!

Eternal Masters Buys Part 3

Link to Part 2

Here is the current list, much reduced. I am passing on some cards, and only getting one each of selected rares.

And I am done with the cards I really wanted (June 20).

I will keep watching prices for some additional bottom feeding. I am most disappointed that Force of Will went up, instead of down. It looks like this set has not been drafted as much as the previous Masters sets.

Eternal Masters Buys Part 2

Link to Part 1

Three more lottery tickets. No major pulls, but a few good commons (be positive, right!)

I am moving on from trying any more packs... my pulls have been dismal, and they are $7 a pop... ouch. The yield out of these packs has been really bad. I love cracking packs, but enough is enough. This is my current want list. I am not sure I am going to build Reanimator with more Entombs. The one card I want is Argothian Enchantress. Everything else is a 'maybe.' Yes, this set has way too many Comet Storms... confirmed!

There may be a set in the future that will make a bunch of people want to play Legacy. I am afraid Eternal Masters is not it. These packs should have been $4 online, or not so full of Comet Storms. Oh, well, back to my list. Here is $10 for needed singles. I am half-way there with Argothian Enchantress. And I am not buying any more packs!

Eternal Masters Buys Part 1

I got two lottery tickets, and don't plan to get any more. The Estimated Value of these is very low when compared to the $7 they cost. I did pull a Daze, though!

June 17: Got all the commons I needed from this set. I may get additional ones for deck building as needed. Here are the uncommons I am interested in:

Here is some bottom feeding.

Late June 17: rare bottom-feeding.

Got my tutors June 18.

Maybe this set is not being drafted as aggressively as the previous Masters sets. I see prices going up in some cases where you would expect them all to go down. I may have to buy a few more lottery tickets. Daze has shot up to $8!

[Legacy] Ceta {Temur} Sanctuary Build-around Part 3 of 3

Link to Part 2

Modern creatures and Legacy non-creature spells form a potent mix. This deck is much stronger than the two previous variations.

Here I am able to play all four Sanctuaries by turn 7.

Here I cast them by turn 11, the longest it took me in these Solitaire games.

Here I cast them by turn 9.

Here I cast them turn 6!

Turn 7.

Turn 8.

Turn 10.

Here is another turn 7 play.

Finally, a turn 10 play set.

And if my objective is to win and not to see how long it takes me to play all four of these enchantments, I can win in Solitaire in five turns.
