BFZ Review Part 11: Black Allies and Vampires

Link to Part 10

Black in BFZ is looking awesome. I went and checked that I do have the Vampire lord from one of the core sets as soon as I saw these cards.

Bloodbond Vampire: another excellent uncommon. There are so many ways to gain life in Modern. It fits perfectly in a deck playing Ajani's Pridemate-and it comes in after it! And its a Vampire and an Ally. What more can you ask for?!
Hagra Sharpshooter: heavy ally bear. The activated effect is a little late, and that means that we will likely only see this card in Limited and Standard Constructed.

Carrier Thrall: good uncommon in an Eldrazi deck since it drops a Scion. Alternatively, you can use the token to drop something else. Green/Black Eldrazi deck wants this.
Defiant Bloodlord: what is it with the rares? A 7 drop that doesn't end the game in your favor. It has a nice Sanguine Bond effect, but nice is not good enough for a 7 drop.

Drana, Liberator of Malakir: definitely a Mythic beater. A bomb in Limited and in Standard. It is worth trying in Modern, although I suspect this card will be money enough for me that I will skip it until it rotates.
Kalastria Healer: great ETB effect to pair in a cube with Avacyn Restored. A solid common in any Ally deck. Seems like a great Limited card.

Kalastria Nightwatch: late game evasion that makes it a late pick in Limited.
Guul Draz Overseer: it will be a good card in Limited. Another rare that got hit with the unplayable stick.

Nirkana Assassin: Kalastria Nightwatch's buddy in Limited.
And last, but not least, Zulaport Cutthroat: I am very happy about Blood Artist 2.0. This card is awesome; yet another blowout uncommon in a set full of blowout uncommons. Sure, its only your creatures, but that is usually what gets me to the win with Blood Artist anyways. It is not worse, just a little different.
